Wine Talk-ing the Night Away

Attended a wine tasting event sometime back. It was held at La Bodega.

Looks like we'll be tasting 6 different wines for the night!

Here are the six!

1) Konrad 'Hole in the Water' Sauvignon Blanc - Marlborough, New Zealand
This has fresh, uplifting gooseberry and citrus aromas which develop into more exotic guava and mango notes. Grapefruit and lush tropical fruits palate, has a tangy acidity with a hint of sweetness.

2) Monte de Peceguina 'Branco' - Alentejo, Portugal
Very aromatic expression of the grapes, with citrus, peach, apricot and floral notes. It has intense flavors, but balanced with a great acidity. This is my personal favorite because it is sweet enough for my taste.

3) Arthur Metz Pinot Gris - Alsace, France
Generous, classic peach, apricot and delicate fungus flavors, with a touch of honey and minerality. Not so much of aroma for this one, it tasted pretty dry too. Apparently it goes well with creamy dishes or slightly spicy ones.

White wines usually go well with seafood or white meats, grilled or roasted. Therefore, we had these during our white wine session.

Before we move on to the reds, let me introduce you to our sommelier of the night.

Introducing David Stephan, a French sommelier with broad knowledge and experience with wines. Born and raised in France, David was practically drinking wines with every meal. He has traveled to different countries, explored thousands of different wines and developed an expert taste to identify great ones. He's really friendly too and the session was never boring with him conducting it.

You know this guy knows his stuff from the way he explains the wine. David gave us a brief history and background of each wine, as well as his experience with them. His descriptions of the wines are relatable and easy to understand, even wine noobs like me can understand!

I shall also take this opportunity to confess that I know nothing about wine. The earlier descriptions of the wines sound so "yes" because I copied it straight from David! Uhurhur, I'll be doing the same for the reds as well and here they are!

4) Peter Lehmann 'Wildcard' Cabernet-Merlot - South Australia
Legendary Peter Lehmann's Cabernet-Merlot showcases black cherry and the bouquet shows black currants with hints of violets. A well-structured seamless wine with a good depth of fruit on the middle palate and finishes with firm, yet gentle tannins.

5) Mancura 'Guardian Reserva' Carmenere - Maipo Valley, Chile
Oak-aged for about 6 months, this wine offers aromas of forest fruits, combined with sweet notes of vanilla, tobacco and plenty of spices. It is fresh in the mouth with rounded tannins and very good structure and body, with flavors of coffee, red fruits and a light touch of leather and menthol.

6) Cusumano Nero d'Avola - Sicily, Italy
A bold shiny red wine, fruit-driven aroma with a little creaminess and light spice on the finish; an unmistakable combination of black cherry and strawberry, balanced with juniper berries and coffee.

Red wines often go well with red meats, grilled or roasted or even stewed. Mmm mmmm, so good.

Come, allow me to showcase my wine tasting skill in this video:

Hahahaha am I a pro or what?

Also there at the event were Karen and Chenelle the two lovely ladies.

We were having too much fun with Chenelle's magic camera.

Too much.

With Josh. Check out the his interview with David Stephan here:

A wonderful creme brulee to wrap up the night.
